Moving during Corona?

Moving is still permitted in Germany – but anyone planning a move during the Corona pandemic needs to take a few points into account.

Because different regulations to contain the virus apply both in Germany and abroad. For example, wearing a medical face mask is mandatory under certain conditions.

The constantly changing regulations during the Corona crisis are causing uncertainty for many people and also pose particular challenges for moving during Corona times and for moving companies.

Whether and how a move is currently possible depends on several aspects.

Is moving house prohibited during the Corona pandemic?

No, moving house is and always has been permitted during the pandemic – even during lockdowns. However, due to the sometimes differing regulations in the individual federal states, you should contact the relevant authority before your move to ensure you receive the necessary information about the applicable regulations.

Are moving companies still operating during the Corona pandemic?

Moving companies have remained operational throughout the entire coronavirus crisis – even during lockdowns. And they continue to be so. Current regulations for service providers apply.

Unfortunately, even today, moving companies can experience capacity shortages due to illness. Should this occur, you, as our customer, will be informed in a timely manner. In this case, we will work together to find a solution.

Are private moving helpers allowed?

With the new Bavarian Infection Protection Measures Ordinance, which has been in effect since April 3, 2022, the vast majority of coronavirus regulations in Bavaria have expired. In many places, the mask mandate has been lifted, and the 2G or 3G regulations no longer apply throughout Bavaria – only basic protective measures remain in place. This means that FFP2 masks are mandatory on public transportation and in places where vulnerable people gather.

According to this, private moving helpers and private moves during Corona pose no problems!

Are apartment viewings possible?

Yes, apartment viewings and move-in viewings are currently possible without any problems. You can easily meet with your potential landlord or a real estate agent. Even open apartment viewings with multiple interested parties are possible.

What hygiene regulations must be observed?

During the move, the recommended hygiene regulations should be observed. This means: observe proper cough and sneeze etiquette, maintain the prescribed minimum distance of 1.5 meters, wash your hands thoroughly with soap, and wear a medical face mask (AHA).

As your trusted moving company, we naturally take additional measures to protect you. For example, we regularly disinfect our vehicles. Most of our employees are now vaccinated.

Unfortunately, for hygiene reasons, we were unable to dispose of packaging materials on your behalf recently. We are now happy to take on this task for you again.

Can removals still be cancelled?

That depends on what was agreed upon in the contract and therefore varies from case to case. If the move cannot be carried out because you have to quarantine, you may have to bear the costs. In this case, however, we will strive to find a fair solution. If the move is cancelled by us due to a staff shortage caused by illness, you will of course not incur any costs.

Are there any relocation regulations?

To ensure your move goes smoothly even during the Corona crisis, you should follow these rules:

Plan for as few helpers as possible.

Maintain the required minimum distance of 1.5 meters.

People who belong to a risk group should not help.

Wash your hands regularly and thoroughly with soap.

Provide disinfectant.

Clean all surfaces in both the old and the new apartment before moving.

What about no-stopping zones?

Many people are still working from home. As a result, there are often more vehicles parked in residential areas than usual. Unfortunately, you might also find that applying for a temporary no-parking zone is currently thwarted by the overburdened authorities. If you do need a no-parking zone, please allow plenty of time or ask your neighbors if they can clear space for the moving truck on your moving day.
